Sheep Herd

Sheep Herd 

sheep herd held by holdings 

     spans generations 

though men might off to war 

     or city to sell their hour 

these lambs still flow & feed 

on grass one sows as hasty 

as thoughts on ancestors passed 

as folks who want mutton at last 

     all flesh is grass returned 

& returned again ewe to lamb 

& mother to son     fed & fed 

     on life in fodder or fallow
