Window Made from Stained Glass

 

the next window     empty 

          not broken just gone 

women bring lunch to this gap 

nasturtium     endive & scallions 

     pepperoni    brown bread 

cream cheese     kalamata tapenade 

pickles     iced tea in crystal goblets 

children gather plates & drinks 

     & carry them off to dine 

because no roof above they can 

watch the clouds & the sun play 

as they partake they sense branches 

     & leaves blowing outside 

they avoid their lessons but nap 

then wake & pretend to be dogs 

attack stacks of bones & spread 

     them in each of the rooms 

when it rains dust blackens faces
