Window Made from Stained Glass
Window Made from Stained Glass
Next window: empty,
not broken just gone:
women bring lunch to this gap:
nasturtium, endive and scallions,
pepperoni, brown bread,
cream cheese, kalamata tapenade,
pickles, iced tea in crystal goblets.
Children gather plates and drinks,
then carry them off to dine.
Because no roof above, they can
watch the clouds and the sun play
as they partake. They sense branches
and leaves blowing outside.
They avoid their lessons but nap.
They wake and pretend to be dogs,
attack stacks of bones and spread
them in each of the rooms.
When it rains, dust blackens faces.
