Io
Io
Phoenicians deny they shackled Io,
stole her for Egypt: Io herself, they
say, made love with a captain as his
vessel moored at Argos: then seeing
herself swollen with child, she left
her shores, freely sailed with him
to avoid the revelation, the shame,
the chiding of her papa, the king.
