Balm

     Balm to my one eye

with the burst blood

vessels, balm to my head

          aching behind that eye,

     balm to my nose sore

from handkerchiefs, balm

          for skin after the cold

wind scorched while cleaning

     snow from my vessel,

          balm like an aphrodisiac

     for the sky's clouds full

of more snow and wind,

     balm for birds tired

of flapping in the darkness…
