We Have Done
We Have Done
We did what you made us do.
Now we lie in darkness beneath
The Winter's sun with crisp air
Absent from cheeks and rocks piled
Above and hymns forgot.
We endure what god decreed as
Retreat troubles more than blood.
One might say we threw our
Lives away— Hope gone and empty.
As men we enjoyed food and love.
A shame you won't be buried with us.
